IT Park Uzbekistan expands cooperation with the country’s leading universities

Representatives of IT Park Uzbekistan, headed by Director of Strategic Development Makhliyo Muksinova, held a series of working meetings with the management of New Uzbekistan University and Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent.

The main focus of the discussions was the development of practical cooperation formats in IT talent training, the launch of joint R&D projects, the advancement of AI-related initiatives, and the integration of university startups into the country’s technological ecosystem.

New Uzbekistan University is a modern university developing as a research center with a strong focus on applied and fundamental scientific research. The university hosts scientific centers and laboratories dedicated to artificial intelligence and is actively developing high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, which is essential for advanced research in AI, data analysis, and engineering sciences. There are four laboratories established in collaboration with Apple, Huawei, MIT, and Yandex. To date, university researchers have published more than 1,200 scientific papers, demonstrating a high level of academic and research activity.

The university also provides industry-oriented education programs, including a Bachelor’s degree in AI and Robotics, a Master’s degree in AI and Machine Learning, as well as a Master’s degree in AI and Big Data delivered in collaboration with Khalifa University.

As part of the visit to New Uzbekistan University, a working meeting was held with the university’s leadership and representatives of relevant academic departments. During the discussions, the parties explored opportunities for student and researcher participation in practical AI projects, the development of applied research, and the creation of favorable conditions for the growth and scaling of university startups as part of the national innovation ecosystem. Special attention was given to scientific collaboration and technology transfer from academia to industry.

Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent is an engineering university with a strong applied foundation and close ties to the industrial sector. The university trains specialists in engineering, digital technologies, and industrial solutions, while also developing R&D initiatives focused on real business and manufacturing challenges. Among the university’s key industrial partners are UzAuto, BYD, MAN, SamAuto, and other major manufacturing companies in Uzbekistan. The university operates five laboratories and research centers: Technopark, Mechatronics Center, Center of Metrology, CAD / CAM / CAE Center, and the Laboratory of the Civil Engineering and Architecture Department.

The university maintains partnerships with foreign higher education institutions. For example, the Management program is delivered in partnership with Pittsburg State University (USA), enabling eligible students to continue their studies in the United States. Students also have exchange opportunities with universities in Poland, Germany, and South Korea.

During the meeting with the leadership of Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, the parties discussed the development of engineering and IT education, prospects for launching joint applied R&D projects, and the university’s role in talent development and strengthening the scientific potential of the country’s technological ecosystem. It was emphasized that the close integration of education, scientific research, and industry enables the training of specialists who are in high demand in the real sector of the economy.

Strengthening partnerships with leading universities enables IT Park Uzbekistan to build a sustainable link between education, science, and the IT industry, enhance applied R&D capabilities, and create conditions for the long-term growth of Uzbekistan’s technological ecosystem.

When I first landed in Uzbekistan back in 2018, I didn’t expect to stay this long. Yet here I am, eight years later, still convinced it’s one of the few places where the math of life makes sense. You get strong value for money, a real sense of community, and a lifestyle that allows you to focus on building. It’s not perfect — but if you want lower burn without shrinking your life, Uzbekistan deserves your attention.
