International Company Bolt Explores the Uzbek Market

On January 14, IT Park hosted a meeting between its representatives, led by CEO Farkhod Ibragimov, and Yuliya Malich, Head of Public Affairs and Government Relations at Bolt. The discussions centered on prospects for collaboration, opportunities to enhance startup expertise, and the development of technologies in Uzbekistan. It is noteworthy that Bolt stands as one of the major international players in the mobility and delivery sector.

    Why is this significant?

Bolt is a European super app with over 200 million users across more than 50 countries in Europe and Africa, covering over 600 cities. The company is committed to making cities more livable for people rather than cars by accelerating the transition from private vehicle ownership to shared mobility. Bolt offers comprehensive solutions for various mobility needs, including ride-hailing, car-sharing, e-scooter rentals, and food and grocery delivery.

Bolt is currently exploring opportunities in Central Asian countries, particularly Uzbekistan. The company has expressed interest in collaborating with government agencies, including the Ministry of Digital Technologies. Bolt’s operations are built on openness to dialogue and collaboration.

During the meeting, IT Park representatives proposed leveraging Uzbekistan’s abundant IT talent to support the development and maintenance of Bolt's software infrastructure, alongside the potential establishment of a back-office operation in the country.

Farkhod Ibragimov emphasized that IT Park would extend all necessary resources to facilitate Bolt's successful operations in Uzbekistan, including assistance with talent acquisition.

Yuliya Malich conveyed a keen interest in Uzbekistan’s burgeoning market, highlighting that the region is a strategic focus for the company. The country's rapidly growing population, substantial pool of young professionals, and accelerated development of digital technologies render Uzbekistan an attractive destination for investment and innovative solutions.

The meeting also included discussions on hosting joint events, notably educational masterclasses led by Bolt specialists to share their expertise.

Bolt’s active engagement and expertise in Uzbekistan promises to unlock significant opportunities for the growth of local startups and technology enterprises, thereby enhancing their global competitiveness. Furthermore, this collaboration is expected to elevate the country’s technological capabilities and strengthen its startup ecosystem.

Tax incentives for startups and foreign investors in Uzbekistan’s IT sector

When I write about Uzbekistan’s tech ecosystem, I keep returning to one theme: opportunity. Unlike in many emerging markets, opportunity here is not just a buzzword, it is being codified into law, built into fiscal frameworks, and delivered through the state-backed IT Park. For startups and foreign investors, the most powerful lever remains the country’s generous package of tax incentives, which have turned IT Park residency into a competitive advantage.
