The World Bank and IT Park Uzbekistan Discuss New Steps for the Development of Uzbekistan’s Digital Economy

During the visit, World Bank representatives reviewed the project’s progress and discussed further measures to support the development of the country’s digital economy. Key areas of focus included the expansion of the Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) sector, the development of digital skills among the population, the adoption of artificial intelligence-based solutions, and the improvement of the regulatory and institutional framework for the digital industry.

The Digital Inclusion in Uzbekistan project is being implemented between 2024 and 2029 with a total budget of USD 50 million. To date, procurement procedures have been completed for 16 out of 18 project packages, nine contracts have been successfully implemented, and the total amount of disbursed funds has reached USD 4.8 million.

As part of the project, analytical work aimed at improving the regulatory framework for the development of the ITES sector has already been completed. Training programs in information technology and foreign languages have been launched across the country’s regions, while soft skills development programs have reached more than 1,400 participants, including women and people with disabilities. Preparations are also underway to launch nationwide training programs focused on artificial intelligence skills.

One of the project’s key achievements has been the establishment of modern digital infrastructure and equipment for the ITES Center. In addition, international promotional activities have facilitated Uzbekistan’s participation in major global industry events, contributing to the attraction of 199 new companies to the local market and the creation of 526 jobs.

The project has also supported the opening of IT Park Uzbekistan’s international representative offices in Germany, the United States, and Saudi Arabia. These offices are helping to expand Uzbekistan’s presence in the global digital services market and attract foreign investors and technology companies.

The visit of the World Bank delegation reaffirmed the strong level of international cooperation in the field of digital development and marked an important step toward further strengthening Uzbekistan’s position as one of the leading hubs for digital economy growth and IT services exports in the region.
