The Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan and IT Park Uzbekistan convened a meeting with representatives of HCLTech, a global technology leader based in India, to deliberate on a strategic roadmap for launching the CareerShaper initiative in Uzbekistan and the potential establishment of an HCLTech office in the country. The discussions were chaired by the Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, and Makhliyo Muksinova, Services Export Development Director at IT Park Uzbekistan, while the HCLTech delegation was led by Srimathi Shivashankar, Vice President and Global Head of HCLTech.
HCLTech is a global technology company operating in 59 countries, employing over 225,000 professionals worldwide. The company offers industry-leading capabilities in digital transformation, engineering, cloud technologies, artificial intelligence, and software development, supported by a comprehensive portfolio of technology services and products. HCLTech generates revenues exceeding $13.7 billion as of 2023.
The delegation from HCLTech conducted a meeting with the Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, during which Srimathi Shivashankar outlined HCLTech’s core areas of operations and proposed collaborative initiatives. These included the development of training and skill-building programs for youth, beginning at the school level, as well as fostering partnerships with universities to enhance specific academic faculties. Minister Shermatov expressed support for these initiatives, indicating his readiness to facilitate their implementation. At the conclusion of the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to mutual cooperation and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The three-day visit by the HCLTech delegation included engagements with IT Park officials, IT Bilim, member companies of IT Park, and leading universities.
Discussions with Makhliyo Muksinova, Services Export Development Director at IT Park Uzbekistan, focused on the prospects of establishing an HCLTech office in Uzbekistan and initiating a large-scale project to develop local IT specialists with the involvement of international experts under the HCL CareerShaper EdTech program.
HCLTech representatives commended Uzbekistan's impressive economic progress over the past seven years and expressed a keen interest in expanding their business in the country, noting its strategic geographical location, diverse workforce, and multilingual human capital as significant advantages.
The HCLTech team also visited the Tashkent branch of IT Park to assess its IT infrastructure and held talks with IT Park members, including EPAM and Uzinfocom. In addition, Srimathi Shivashankar and Ankush Saraf visited universities such as TUIT, INHA, and ITPU, where they explored collaborative opportunities to advance EdTech solutions in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Discussions further delved into strategies for developing university faculties focused on producing industry-ready professionals.
To gain a deeper insight into Uzbekistan's contemporary educational programs focused on the advancement of digital technologies, the HCLTech delegation met with representatives of IT Bilim. The discussions centered on innovative approaches to education, as well as the exchange of expertise in the integration of IT solutions into the educational process. This interaction allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the existing programs and facilitated the identification of potential avenues for future collaboration.
HCLTech’s globally recognized expertise positions the launch of a joint educational initiative as a pivotal step in developing the professional competencies of local specialists. This program is poised to equip a skilled workforce for export-oriented enterprises, thereby driving the growth of exports and attracting international companies to the domestic market. The expansion of HCLTech’s operations within Uzbekistan will not only elevate the demand for local talent but also serve as a catalyst for the country’s integration into the global IT ecosystem.
