Meeting held in Tokyo with Uzbek compatriots and startup founders

As part of the visit to Japan, the Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Shermatov, and the CEO of IT Park Uzbekistan, Abdulakhad Kuchkarov, held a meeting with Uzbek compatriots working in the information technology sector and developing startups in Japan. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of Uzbekistan's digital economy, prospects for startups and IT professionals, and the further strengthening of cooperation with the Uzbek diaspora abroad.

The Minister of Digital Technologies presented the current state and development dynamics of Uzbekistan's startup ecosystem, highlighting the primary outcomes of national digital reforms. Particular attention was placed on the increasing volume of startup investments, the expansion of international acceleration programs, and the enhancement of the country's presence within the global technological landscape.

“Today, Uzbekistan is actively integrating into the global startup ecosystem. We are witnessing substantial interest from international investors and partners, and we anticipate that our compatriots abroad will serve as a bridge between Uzbekistan and global markets,” stated the Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov.

A dedicated segment of the meeting focused on the opportunities provided by IT Park Uzbekistan for compatriots working abroad. The CEO of IT Park Uzbekistan detailed the existing tax incentives, acceleration programs, support measures for startups, and soft-landing mechanisms available to enterprises considering Uzbekistan as a base for business operations and engineering teams.

“We have established an ecosystem that enables founders and entrepreneurs to launch and scale businesses with minimal barriers. For compatriots based in Japan, Uzbekistan can serve as an operational and engineering platform that integrates access to talent, competitive conditions, and state support,” emphasized Abdulakhad Kuchkarov.

The event was attended by more than twenty Uzbek specialists and startup founders associated with leading international companies and technological projects in Japan. Participants addressed practical issues regarding Japanese market entry, investment attraction, and potential formats for collaboration.

Representatives of UPJ (Uzbek Professionals of Japan) contributed actively to the discussions.

In conclusion, the Uzbek specialists working in Japan commended the positive transformations within Uzbekistan’s startup ecosystem over recent years and the favorable conditions established for technological entrepreneurship. The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest and commitment to practical cooperation, identifying specific objectives to strengthen technological and innovative ties between the two nations.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain a structured dialogue and to formulate specific cooperation mechanisms designed to leverage the expertise and international networks of Uzbek compatriots for the advancement of Uzbekistan’s digital economy. Such engagements facilitate the strengthening of the national global IT community and establish sustainable communication channels between the state and Uzbek professionals abroad.
